Mayor 2011 - 2012
Cllr Gill Birch
I have been a Town Councillor for 11 years and it was a real honour and a privilege to be the Mayor of Bracknell Town. The opportunity to support the many voluntary organisations and see first-hand all the wonderful work so many people do to help others was really uplifting.
During my mayoral year I endeavoured to encourage and promote these voluntary groups in any way I could.
The town council aims to keep all our green open spaces maintained to a very high standard to promote the well-being of residents. This year we employed an Environmental Officer whose job will be to make sure that all our open spaces and play areas are free of litter, dog mess and well maintained. I endorsed this aim and promoted all green initiatives during my mayoral year.
As a part-time teacher I am used to communicating with children and it would be lovely to support our schools in Bracknell by explaining how the council is elected and the role of the Mayor.
This year my charity was The South Hill Park Trust. I chose the Art Centre, not just because it is in the ward I represent, as it offers such a fabulous variety of entertainment and art. We are so fortunate to have such a wonderful building and grounds to enjoy. I hope that by choosing it as my charity I raised the profile of South Hill Park so many more residents go there and learn to love it as much as I do!
