Town Council Precept
increase below inflation
In challenging times,
Bracknell Town Council will keep up maintenance standards in local parks and
play areas, and continue support for local organisations. Council Leader Chris
Turrell said ‘evidence is that people are making more use of local facilities
in these times and we aim to keep up standards and value for money so they can
be enjoyed.’
The Council will make grants
to a range of local organisations and charities in 2010 and will maintain its
support for South Hill Park. A small grants scheme is also available to help
with emergency requests during the year. Roughly 1,000 residents in the
Bracknell Town area benefit from the council's TV licence subsidy scheme.
The Council supports the
continuation of the dog warden service (which has been threatened by Bracknell
Forest Council cuts), and aims to protect it in its present form, or initiate
an alternative.
In the last year the Council
has had to cope with increases in energy costs but is working to control
energy usage better. In April 2010 the Council's precept will rise from £69.87
to £71.29 per annum at Band D, an increase of £1.40 per annum or 2%. Inflation
is currently at 2.4% [RPI].

MEET OUR TOWN CLERK

Mary Harris joined Bracknell Town Council in December 2005 where she spent four
months learning her new role. She took over as the Town Clerk on 1st May 2006 following Barbara Rumbold's
decision to retire after 31 years of service.
Prior to taking up her role as Town Clerk, Mary was Operations Director for a
Housing Association, working specifically with older people and people with
special needs. Her interest in local government stems from studies undertaken
during her Public Policy MBA which she completed at Birmingham University in
2003.
Mary’s working life started as a Nutritionist, her most memorable job
being a maternity assistant on a pig farm! Mary is committed to enabling the
Council to provide a variety of quality services for the residents of Bracknell
Town.
